JIMMY ANG: TRIBUTE TO A MENTOR
When one enters the Ford Academy of Arts in Davao, one will immediately notice the bust and life-size sculptures of National Artist Victorio Edades. This was done by Jimmy Ang, one of two students who had the privilege of being trained by the master artist. It is Jimmy Ang’s tribute to his mentor, who played a key role in the modern art movement of the Philippines.
After graduating from the Ford Academy of the Arts in 1985, Jimmy shared his passion for the arts as an art facilitator in the school, first at the High School and then in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program.
As an artist, Jimmy’s works include life-size sculptures of great artists Nick Joaquin and N.V.M. Gonzalez; a life-size sculpture of the Blue Knight at Ateneo de Davao; as well as bust sculptures of 22 mayors in Mati, Davao.
