The country’s largest mobile wallet service GCash has teamed up with local courier service company Xend for the first quick response (QR)-paid shipment service in the Philippines.

Globe Fintech Innovations Inc. (Mynt), which operates GCash, said it has entered into a partnership with the Xend Group to make GCash QR code payment acceptable on all Xend branches in the country.

“We are excited to launch this partnership with Xend. They’re a wellknown startup in the community, and both companies share the same passion for innovation. We’re happy that they’ve enabled their customers with a more convenient way to pay at their stores,” said Mynt president and CEO Anthony Thomas.

Through the partnership, all Xend branches will accept digital payments with GCash. Xend offers delivery of shipments nationwide and worldwide.

“The Xend Group is committed to offer tech-enabled services to its customers. This partnership with GCash where our customers can pay using their mobile phones through the GCash App is a welcome development as we strive to provide more convenience to our customers by using the GCash QR technology,” said Bjorn Pardo, president and CEO of the Xend Group.

The Xend Group is among the latest string of partners of Mynt that embrace the vision of a cashless future.

Last week, GCash announced a partnership with fastfood chain Wendy’s in line with its continuing aggressive rollout of QR payments.

Well-known merchants currently using the scan to pay feature are the Max’s Group of restaurants, apparel brand Bench, hardware retail chain Handyman, and international brands special retailer Stores Specialists Inc.

To use the scan to pay feature of GCash, a customer with an iPhone or an Android smartphone needs to download or update to the latest version of the GCash App, register an account, and fund GCash wallet at any of over 15,000 GCash Partner Outlets nationwide.

Once done, the customer just has to tap on Scan QR, point a phone’s camera at the partner’s QR code, and pay.

With the increasing use of smartphones in the country, GCash is continuing the rollout of the scan-to-pay feature by partnering with more merchants to make it more convenient for shoppers to make purchases.
