PLDT, UNICEF to place children’s welfare in the heart of business

-

Leading digital services provider PLDT is working with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to support and advance children’s rights, not just through corporate social responsibility programs, but also in the conduct of its business operations.

This is the first time for UNICEF to collaborate with a Philippine company and come up with concrete efforts to promote children’s welfare in the workplace, marketplace, and community.

In the next few weeks, UNICEF will conduct trainings and workshops for senior officers of PLDT and its wireless units Smart Communications and Digitel Mobile Philippines. In these sessions, the group will look at its business processes to see which ones have an impact on children’s welfare.

The group will then come up with steps to advance the welfare of Filipino kids as customers, children of PLDT employees, and future members of the workforce. Possible initiatives include labor practices enabling employees to care for their children better, marketing materials that promote positive gender images, safe products and services, and child safeguarding policies.

On top of these, the PLDT Group will work with UNICEF for a multiplatform campaign to educate children, youth, parents, educators, and community partners nationwide on promoting children’s welfare and protection online.
