Maynilad sets rotational water supply amid interruptions

- – Louise Maureen Simeon

Customers of west zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. should start storing water as the company has started implementing a rotational water supply scheme in several parts of Metro Manila amid ongoing interruptions.

In its latest advisory, Maynilad said it will implement “rotational water supply availability schedules” for customers in Bulacan, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, Quezon City, Manila, Pasay, Makati, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa and Cavite until tomorrow or until the turbidity of the water at Ipo Dam improves.

Some areas in Quezon City will have water from 4 a.m. to noon or 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A large area of Caloocan can expect water to be supplied from 4 p.m. to 6 a.m. or 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Smaller areas like Parañaque and Navotas will have shorter rotational periods of up to three hours or from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m.

“We will not be able to normalize water supply for our affected customers until rains over the Ipo watershed stop and the turbidity level goes down to manageable levels,” Maynilad said.

The increase in the turbidity of raw water coming from Ipo Dam was due to the heavy rains over the weekend.

Maynilad had to reduce production at its La Mesa treatment plants to remove the increased sediment from the raw water.
