Rody to brods: Be selfless and serve nation

- By CHRISTINA MENDEZ

Rise above personal interest and serve the nation.

President Duterte hurled this challenge to his fraternity brothers at Lex Taliones, which was set to hold its national convention yesterday in Davao City.

In his message to Lex Taliones members, Duterte stood proud that the law fraternity has remained committed to its pursuit of excellence and superiority in the legal profession about five decades since it was formed.

Lex Taliones counts Duterte among its prominent members.

Former justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre as well as ex-deputy commissioners Al Argosino and Michael Robles also belong to the group and were among Duterte’s first batch of appointees to his administration, although their services were terminated over allegations of corruption.

In his message, Duterte called on his brothers to strengthen the resolve to “embody our ideals of loyalty and service that we owe not only to our fraternity but more importantly to our fellowmen.”

“May this occasion serve as a reminder for all of us that the success of our brotherhood is hinged not on the personal achievements of any single member, but on our capacity to collectively stand together and sacrifice our own interests in the name of selfless service to our nation,” Duterte said.

He also enjoined them to reaffirm the commitment to mold young idealistic leaders who will steer the country towards a brighter future in the coming years.

“Let us instill patriotism, integrity, and social responsibility among our members so we may contribute to the noble task of building a stronger and more inclusive nation,” the President said.
