- By CECILLE SUERTE FELIPE

A centenarian received the surprise of her life as police officers from Central Luzon brought her a cake for her 103rd birthday last Thursday in Clarkfield, Pampanga.

Police Officer 2 Alberto Reyes and other members of the 302nd Maneuver Company Regional Mobile Force Battalion 3 gave Rosa Gaturian a birthday cake on Aug. 16.

Reyes’ group was on foot patrol in Clarkfield when they saw Lola Rosa collecting garbage.

Reyes said the police officers approached and interviewed Lola Rosa, who claimed to be from Leyte and is now living alone in a shanty in Marcos Village, Mabalacat City. She also claimed it was her 103rd birthday.

Reyes and his group assisted Lola Rosa to her shanty while other members of the group surprised her with a birthday cake. The policemen also gave her rice and food.

Authorities have yet to find documents that would prove Gaturian’s age.

Central Luzon Police regional director Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus commended his men for going out of their way to help the elderly.

“I am proud of our police officers. This genuine act of kindness that they have shown to our elderly only proves that your (Philippine National Police) is here not only to serve and protect but also to care and bring happiness in our own little way,” Corpus said.
