DOTr attached agencies top contributors for 2017

- RICHMOND MERCURIO

Three agencies under the Department of Transportation (DOTr) were among the governmentowned controlled corporations which remitted the highest amount of dividends to the country’s coffers last year.

Topping the list is the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), while Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) ranked second and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) ranked seventh.

Following non-remittance from 2011 to 2015, CAAP turned over to the government P6.2 billion in dividends.

Last year, the total amount of dividends from the 125 GOCCs in the country reached P30.46 billion.

“These dividends will certainly auger well in achieving the objectives set by President Duterte in the service of the country and our fellowmen,” Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said.

CAAP’s remittance represents 68 percent of the agency’s net income for 2017 amounting to P3.22 billion, including P3 billion worth of unpaid dividend arrears.

PPA, for its part, remitted P3 billion worth of dividends last year, while MIAA remitted P2.01 billion to the national coffers.

Tugade challenged the top grossing agencies to exceed their 2017 performance.

“My challenge for you is to exceed your 2017 performance by 20 percent. It may be difficult but certainly not impossible,” Tugade said.
