Mega7 Construction Corp takes in partner for Kalibo airport bid

- By RICHMOND MERCURIO

The company that submitted an unsolicited proposal to upgrade, maintain, and operate the Kalibo International Airport has brought in a partner to strengthen its bid after its initial offer was thumbed down by the government.

Transportation Undersecretary for planning Ruben Reinoso Jr. told The

STAR that Mega7 Construction Corp. has taken in a partner “with experience” in an effort to secure the government’s nod for its unsolicited proposal.

“They submitted partners with experience and better concession payments,” Reinoso said.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) earlier rejected Mega7 Construction’s offer, saying that the proponent lacks experience in airport development, operations, and maintenance.

Reinoso did not identify Mega7 Construction’s partner. He said the company’s revised offer is still under evaluation.

The DOTr said Mega7 Construction is jointly owned by marketing and advertising firm Digichive Philippines Corp. and general wholesale merchandise firm Dominion Intertrade Corp.

Should its unsolicited proposal receive an original proponent status from the DOTr, it would give the company the right to match offers from other parties when a Swiss challenge is conducted for the project.

The Kalibo International Airport is a main gateway to the world-famous tourist destination Boracay Island.

Other regional airports such as the Bacolod-Silay International Airport, the Iloilo International Airport, and Laguindingan Airport have yet to receive unsolicited proposals from the private sector.
