Top amateurs gear up for Cangolf Am Open

The country’s leading and upcoming amateur players brace for another spirited duel for top honors as they clash in the 18th Canlubang Amateur Open slated Oct. 3-5 at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club’s North and South courses in Laguna.

Paolo Wong and Yuka Saso topped last year’s staging of the event put up annually by the host club and the Yulo family and where members of the national team hone their talent and skills.

They include Saso, who shone in the just-concluded Asian Games where she rallied from three down in the final round to claim the individual gold and led the Philippine­s to the team championsh­ip.

Others expected to compete in the 54-hole event are siblings Jolo and Jonas Magcalayo, Aniceto Mandanas, Paolo Barro in the Championsh­ip men’s division and Nicole Abelar, Annyka Cayabyab and Mafy Singson in the distaff side.

Also on tap are the Classes A, B and C and ladies division to be played over 36 holes.
