DTI alerts BOC on used cars in Davao
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has cautioned the Bureau of Customs (BOC) about the entry of used trucks and special purpose vehicles at the Port of Davao and the release to consignees even without complying fully with requirements.
In a letter to Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña on Sept. 6, DTI Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo said a number of shipments of used trucks arrived recently in the port and were released on an “as-is condition” to consignees.
Rodolfo attached a copy of the Inward Foreign Manifest, which showed that the trucks were as old as a 1995 model, and reminded Lapeña of a memorandum that BOC issued in September last year to prevent the entry of used trucks and other vehicles in the country.
Executive Order 156 also requires importers to secure the release certificates upon arrival of imported used motor vehicles at the BOC collection districts.
