‘Amalgam’ at Galerie Anna
“Ars longa, vita brevis” (Art is long, life is short) is a Greek aphorism from the Father of Medicine. Hippocrates. While the origin of this striking phrase is unquestionable, it has assumed, not surprisingly, various interpretations. Nonetheless, the expression has endured, survived through millennia, into the present century where the virtue of art is extolled to be lasting and enduring, while our trials and suffering have to be endured throughout a life that is mercifully short. Thus life is an inescapable amalgam, a fusion of contradictions, merging in one current of existence.
This is the thought-provoking impetus behind the group exhibition “Amalgam” presented by Galerie Anna starting today, Sept. 10.
Participating artists are Norlie Meimban, Mark Nativo, Nelson Ricahuerta, and Jojo Ramirez. The works vary from the dominating presence of Picasso, the god of enduring art, to stirring images of contemporary ills, sorrows, heartaches, and psychic privations. “Amalgam” runs until Sept. 24. Galerie Anna is at the 4/F, The Artwalk, SM Megamall A, Mandaluyong City. For inquiries, call 470-2511/4709869, or SMS 0995-9908202/0975-3861187.
