HONESTBEE FOR MILLENNIAL MOMS

- By JULIE CABATIT-ALEGRE

It’s a familiar story millennial moms can easily relate to: “Before Honestbee, all my weekends were spent doing chores and rushing out to buy groceries and other stuff that I needed,” says Crystal Gonzalez, managing director of Honestbee. “I already felt that I lost a lot of time on the weekdays, given that I was a working mom.”

She certainly had her hands full, with a one-and-a-half-year-old baby boy and a three-year-old daughter to take care of, on top of everything else. “So it’s important to get the help of technology and apps like Honestbee, not just to make our lives easier, but also to make our lives better,” she says.

Established in Singapore, “Honestbee is Asia’s leading online concierge and delivery service,” explains Cat Avelino, Honestbee brand and communications director. Customers select their groceries and food orders through the Honestbee mobile app.

“We curate for you the best-quality products at the best price, and we have well-trained concierge shoppers who do your shopping for you. We deliver the goods to your doorstep so we make it convenient for you as well.”

Gonzalez adds, “We want to promote convenience, making better use of your time, being able to spend your time for the things that matter most. You don’t have to spend two to three hours running to the grocery or the mall, being stuck in traffic.

“The other part that is important is the type of brands and products that we offer,” she continues. “We want to work closely with other moms. It is important to involve our customers. We are open to suggestions on what products they want in Honestbee. We value their input.”

There’s a special category in the Honestbee app called “Babies and Maternity,” which gathers Honestbee partner merchants who offer highquality products for moms and their babies. “A lot of the merchants that we wanted in the Babies and Maternity section are SMEs or mom-and-pop stores that you usually just hear about from your mom’s friends or you read about from blogs,” Gonzalez shares.

Among the first baby brands to join Honestbee’s roster is Tiny Buds, which offers all-natural baby products such as nasal cleaners, organic wipes and fabric-softener sets. “We are very thoughtful about millennial moms and how our products can be made available to them in the fastest and most convenient way possible,” says Lorina Tan, Tiny Buds’ business unit head for baby care. “That’s why we partnered with Honestbee, so we can make sure that moms receive their Tiny Buds orders when they need them.”

“We make sure our products match the expectations of our millennial moms. We value their trust,” Tan adds. “Honestbee understands that.”

For Karabella, makers of allnatural dairy products, “Working with Honestbee has been really great because we know that our online reach is growing through the company’s efforts,” says Erika Wong, cofounder of Karabella. “It is the perfect online platform to hold our products because our ice creams have been arriving at the doorsteps of our customers in pristine condition.”

Karabella produces ice cream made with fresh carabao’s milk and other ingredients that are 100-percent natural, sourced from local farmers. It is a social enterprise, supporting full scholars from the Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farms (GKEF) SEED program (School for Experiential and Entrepreneurial Development). Key Ann Moronia, who now works as a Karabella merchandiser in a supermarket; and Jecka Lebrilla, who works fulltime with Karabella in its operations in Metro Manila, are both graduates of the SEED program.

“Honestbee is a great platform to reach more people,” Wong says. “With our online presence, more people will know and talk about the brand and increase its impact.”

Other merchants in the app’s Babies and Maternity category include Mustela, Parenting Emporium, Nature to Nurture, Baby Bjorn, Richell for Babies, Love to Dream, Mamas & Papas, Mother’s Touch, Nosh, Mistine, Biolan, Milking Bombs and Milkin’Mommies.

“I wish Honestbee was around when I was starting out as a mom,” says Cat Avelino, who’s the mother of a 17-yearold. “We did not have lactation aids at that time. It was boiled malunggay leaves back then. I am super amazed at the variety of products that we have now that really help moms to be better moms.”
