Valera unearthed: an Exhibit Featuring some never publicly seen Pieces from the designer’s legacy
Zonta club’s FilipinaZ Fair pays tribute to ramon Valera with an immersive vignette experience.
FilipinaZ Fair is a three-day art, fashion and jewelry showcase that celebrates Filipino culture and heritage. And this year’s edition, held from Nov. 9 to 11 at 8 Rockwell, features the works of the Philippines’ first National Artist for Fashion Design Ramon Valera with an immersive fashion vignette in tribute to his muse, the Filipino woman.
Valera’s legacy lives on in his deep archives of notable fashion creations and his significant contributions to the modernization of the Filipino national dress. At this year’s FilipinaZ, a special exhibit called “Valera Unearthed,” presented by Zonta Club of Makati and Environs together with Security Bank, will feature some of Valera’s finest creations, as well as pieces belonging to some of the members of the club and their friends that have never been publicly showcased before.
As a celebration of womanhood, “Valera Unearthed” aims to give life and pay tribute to his muse, the Filipina, as a fashion icon then and now, which is well reflected in the late designer’s creations.
Designed to be an immersive experience, the fashion vignette will recreate Valera’s workspace — revealing stories, beautiful creations and the creative processes of the late designer. From personal memorabilia — a glass used by the designer himself every day, a telephone — to his bridal and terno sketches.
At a time when everything was done painstakingly by hand, Valera’s elegant and timeless creations were fueled by passion and stirring intricacy, in order to greatly showcase the exceptional craftsmanship that went into each of his beautifully handmade Filipiniana dresses. “Valera Unearthed” will also serve as a platform to unveil new designs as the late designer’s family unveils a few pieces that pay homage to Valera’s legacy of craftsmanship and artistry. Take this opportunity to discover up close Valera’s contributions to the fashion, design and arts industries that merited him receiving the National Artist medal — the highest accolade given to a Filipino whose vision, artistry and craftsmanship continues to transcend time.
“Valera Unearthed” is made possible by House of Valera, Zonta Club of Makati & Environs Foundation, Security Bank, Zarah Juan, and will be on display at this year’s FilipinaZ from Nov. 9 to 11 in 8 Rockwell.
