Pagunsan, Que make cut in rain-hit Taiheiyo Masters

- – Dante Navarro

Juvic Pagunsan sizzled at the finish to save a 73 while Angelo Que blew a two-under card with two bogeys in the last three for a 70 as the Filipino bets advanced at resumption of the weather-interrupted VISA Taiheiyo Masters in Shizuoka, Japan early yesterday.

Pagunsan, who shot a 69 in the first round but struggled with a backside start of 40 in demanding conditions Friday, birdied the last two holes at the front at the completion of his second round play. He pooled a 142 but stood too far behind at joint 39th, 10 strokes off Shota Akiyoshi, who carded a 68 for a 132.

Que’s shaky finish, on the other hand, dropped the recent TOP Cup Tokai winner to a share of 47th at 143, just one shot better than the cutoff score in the $1.8 million tournament.

Bad weather, however, forced the organizers to halt play in the third round at presstime.
