LPA to bring rains in Mindanao, E. Visayas

- – Helen Flores

The state weather bureau has warned residents of Mindanao and parts of Eastern Visayas of possible flashfloods and landslides due to rains spawned by a lowpressure area.

The low-pressure area will bring moderate to occasional heavy rains over Caraga, Davao, Northern Mindanao and Zamboanga peninsula, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The weather system will also bring scattered light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Soccsksargen and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Its trough will bring rains over Eastern Visayas and Palawan.

PAGASA weather specialist Ariel Rojas said the weather system is expected to cross Mindanao today.

The low-pressure area is forecast to develop into a tropical depression. It will be locally named Samuel when it enters the Philippine area of responsibility.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the low-pressure area was spotted 250 kilometers east of General Santos City.
