Until Dec. 25 when the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) opens, newcomer Shido Roxas isn’t sure (in fact, he’s terribly worried) how his mom will react to a scene in Rainbow’s
Sunset, Heaven’s Best’s MMFF entry directed by Joel Lamangan about a bromance between men (played by Eddie Garcia and Tony Mabesa) in the sunset of their lives. As the young Eddie, Shido does a French kiss with theater actor Ross Pesigan (real-life boyfriend of Angeli Bayani), much too passionate compared to the tender kissing scene between Eddie and Tony which is nothing to be fussed about.
“I told my mom only after the scene was shot,” said Shido, “and I’m not sure how she will react when she watches the movie…if she does watch it. You see, she’s very religious. She leads us to hear Mass every Sunday and if we fail to go, she scolds us.”
Because of his macho looks (a cross between Fil-Am Hollywood actor Lou Diamond Phillips and Coco Martin whom he also sounds-alike), Shido is predicted to be local filmdom’s newest sex symbol and Rainbow’s Sunset may just be his launching pad. It was Shido’s machismo that attracted talent manager Leo Dominguez into signing him up for his growing stable of talents, after Leo saw him on Instagram.
“Before the shoot,” recalled Shido, “direk Joel told me and Ross that it better be good, otherwise he would call for retakes. Ross and I did it in one take.” (Shido so impressed Joel that Joel cast him in another movie, Significant Other.)
The eldest of four siblings, Sidney Roxas got the monicker Shido in Japan where he took further studies after tucking up an Economics degree at La Salle (he finished secondary education in Colegio de San Juan de Letran where all his siblings studied). He has done around 10 commercials (Mang Inasal with Angel Locsin, etc.) and could have joined showbiz a few years ago when Maryo J. delos Reyes discovered him. “But I wasn’t ready at that time,” said Shido, “even if I was intrigued about showbiz. In Japan, I used to have a band called X12 where I did vocals and drums. I was enrolled in an international school and I would perform during the inter-cultural event.”
A Sagittarian (Dec. 17), Shido stands 5’10”; weighs 163 lbs.; and wears size-M shirt, size-L briefs and size-11 shoes. What is sexy to you? “What’s inside her na kaya niyang ilabas pa, how she exudes her inner self, and how she deals with life even in extreme circumstances.” When do you feel sexy?
“In the morning and at night when I’m in bed since I usually sleep only in my briefs. Pag matutulog na at pagka-gising.” Sexiest part of your body? “My butt.” What qualities do you want in a girl?
“My taste has changed. Before, I want them classy and sweet (mahinhin). Now, I prefer those na totoong babae, ‘yung kahit maingay that I click with on first meeting.” When did you lose your innocence? “When I was 16.” To a younger girl, older girl or a girl your age? “A younger girl.” Sexiest musical instrument? “Viola or saxophone” Sexiest book? “Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie.” Sexiest song? “Back to Me by Cueshe.” Sexiest food? “Scallops.” Sexiest clothes? “Anything white.” Sexiest perfume? “Francis Kurkdjian.” Sexiest face of a woman? “Alice Dixson.” Sexiest billboard? “Solenn Heussaff. She’s sexy even when she isn’t moving. Hindi pa gumagalaw, sexy na.” Sexiest car?
“Maserati.” Sexiest time of day? “Night time.” Sexiest part of the house?
“Probably the ceiling lights. You look at it when you are in bed and you want to unwind or to just think of whatever.” Sexiest scene that you’ve seen in a movie? “It’s a scene between two women making love.
