Dismissed cop stabbed 30 times

- – Rey Galupo

A dismissed policeman was stabbed dead during a drinking session in Tondo, Manila Sunday night.

Jose Igig, 42, formerly assigned at the Quezon City Police District, was attacked while he was dancing along Scarborough Katuparan street, Road 10 in Vitas at around 8:35 p.m. but no one was willing to talk to investigators, said Senior Police Officer 3 Charles John Duran of the Manila Police District (MPD) homicide section.

Igig was declared dead on arrival at a hospital from at least 30 stab wounds.

Duran said it was unlikely that no one saw the attack because “the place was teeming with people when it happened.”

He said the victim was dismissed from the police service for gross misconduct in 2010. A relative of the victim told police Igig incurred the ire of several people because of his brash behavior.

Chief Inspector Rommel Anicete, MPD homicide chief, said they are still waiting for the medical report to determine if there was only one attacker.

Probers recovered a bloodied broken liquor bottle, an orange knife and a black knife handle from the crime scene.
