9 soldiers wounded in Samar bomb blast
TACLOBAN CITY – Nine soldiers were wounded when an improvised bomb exploded following an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in San Jorge, Samar yesterday.
Lt. Col. Rizaldo Laurena, 63rd Infantry Battalion (IB) commander, said the soldiers clashed with the rebels in Barangay Bay-ang.
Brig. Gen. Ramil Biton 803rd Infantry Brigade commander, said they launched the offensive after receiving reports that the rebels were planning attacks across Eastern Visayas. He also cited reports that NPA guerrillas were harassing residents of Barangays Bayang and Mobo-ob also in San Jorge and Barangay Beri in Motiong town.
In Iloilo, Cpl. Aldrin Cables was wounded in an encounter with NPA rebels in Barangay Cabatangan, Lambunao also yesterday.
Lt. Col, Sisenandro Magbalot Jr., 61st IB commander, said the rebels also suffered casualties, citing bloodstains on their escape route
