9 sol­diers wounded in Sa­mar bomb blast

TACLOBAN CITY – Nine sol­diers were wounded when an im­pro­vised bomb ex­ploded fol­low­ing an en­counter with sus­pected New Peo­ple’s Army (NPA) rebels in San Jorge, Sa­mar yes­ter­day.

Lt. Col. Rizaldo Lau­rena, 63rd In­fantry Bat­tal­ion (IB) com­man­der, said the sol­diers clashed with the rebels in Barangay Bay-ang.

Brig. Gen. Ramil Bi­ton 803rd In­fantry Brigade com­man­der, said they launched the of­fen­sive af­ter re­ceiv­ing re­ports that the rebels were plan­ning at­tacks across East­ern Visayas. He also cited re­ports that NPA guer­ril­las were ha­rass­ing res­i­dents of Barangays Bayang and Mobo-ob also in San Jorge and Barangay Beri in Mo­tiong town.

In Iloilo, Cpl. Aldrin Ca­bles was wounded in an en­counter with NPA rebels in Barangay Ca­batan­gan, Lam­bunao also yes­ter­day.
