Lady Al­tas oust Stags, stay in con­tention

Per­pet­ual Help elim­i­nated San Se­bas­tian, 25-19, 25-8, 18-25, 25-17, yes­ter­day to keep its Fi­nal Four bid alive in the women’s di­vi­sion of the 94th NCAA vol­ley­ball tour­na­ment at the Filoil Fly­ing V Cen­ter in San Juan.

Jowie Ver­zosa came through with 15 points and 13 digs while Cindy Imbo and Jenny Gavi­ola scat­tered 12 hits each as the Lady Al­tas nailed their fifth vic­tory against three de­feats and a spot in the Fi­nal Four.

The Las Piñas-based spik­ers, who missed the Fi­nal Four last year, could se­cure a berth if they beat the Jose Rizal U Lady Bombers (4-4) in the fi­nal elim­i­na­tion round play­date on Thurs­day.

Per­pet­ual Help also booted SSC (4-5) out of the Fi­nal Four.

Ear­lier, Per­pet­ual Help’s men’s and ju­niors’ squads dumped their re­spec­tive foes to inch closer to sweep­ing their way straight to the best-of-three fi­nals.

The Al­tas way­laid the Stags, 25-19, 25-20, 25-21, while the Ju­nior Al­tas wal­loped the Sta­glets, 25-15, 25-23, 25-17, to roll to their eighth straight win.

They play JRU on Thurs­day to claim an out­right fi­nals spot.

Reign­ing MVP Joe­bert Almodiel was the Al­tas’ driv­ing force again as he un­loaded a game-high 18 points while Ron­niel Ros­ales and Aljoe Ser­ena con­trib­uted 11 and 10, re­spec­tively.

Per­pet­ual Help also swept the men’s side last sea­son.
