Hizon (photo) has been inducted into the Eastwood Walk of Fame.

Rico was the only broadcast journalist in the news and public affairs category to have a star in this year’s induction ceremony.

His eight other fellow inductees honored with a golden star at German “Kuya Germs” Moreno’s project at the Eastwood Mall Walk of Fame were Pia Wurtzbach, Derek Ramsay, Julia Baretto, Ken Chan, Vhong Navarro, Dr. Jose Perez, Chito Roño and Marichu Vera Perez Maceda.

For Rico, it was a proud moment as he celebrated his 30th year in the news business. Rico is the only Filipino to anchor the news in two of the world’s most prestigious news organisations — CNBC and BBC World News.

Rico, in his acceptance speech, thanked the men and women he has worked with and mentored him in his three-decade long career, “I’m really proud to be honored with this star. I am so proud of my heritage and where I come from and to be given this star is really an exciting moment in time for me. I have worked for almost three decades in the news industry in both the Philippines and internationally and I couldn’t have done this without the support of all my colleagues and peers along the way — what a proud and humbling moment! I’ve still got lots of work to do as the news never stops and it’s my responsibility to report it always as fair and balanced as possible.”

Now on his 16th year with BBC World News, Rico is a multiawarded journalist having won the Rotary Club of Manila Broadcast Journalist of the Year Award, The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) award for International Journalism and last year his news program Newsday won Best News Programme at the Asian Television Awards.

BBC News is one of the most trusted sources of news with a global audience of 450 million.
