Bomb scares hit Taguig, Makati

- – Ghio Ong

Three bomb scares disrupted work in southern Metro Manila since Sunday.

In Taguig, a text message received by a court employee yesterday morning called for the death of “corrupt judges” and disrupted work at the city’s hall of justice.

Grace Zaulda approached Police Officer 1 Janice Dulnuan and showed her the message she received at around 8:30 a.m.

“Salaam Alaikum. Be ready to meet ur maker. Ur hall of justice will be blown up. Death to all oppressors. Death to all corrupt judges. Jihad is upon us. Allah is the greatest,” the message read, according to a report by city police chief Senior Superintendent Alexander Santos.

Personnel from the city police’s explosives and ordnance division (EOD) declared the hall of justice safe after searching the building.

In Makati, the first bomb scare was reported at past 1 p.m. Sunday when personnel from the city police’s EOD checked a piece of luggage abandoned at the park of the Magallanes Interchange.

Around four hours later, the EOD received a report about a bomb threat at the Barangay Bangkal hall.

Nicanor Yugas, barangay security officer and operator of the barangay’s closedcircuit television system at the time, told police he received a text message from cell phone number 0939-6144857.

The sender claimed he was a barangay employee who found out that another employee left a bomb at the barangay hall that would explode in a few hours.

No bomb was found in the barangay hall and investigators have yet to find out who sent the message.
