Pinoy couple among dead in Paris apartment blaze

An elderly Filipino couple was among the fatalities in the fire that razed an apartment building in Paris, France early Tuesday.

The victims were identified as Francisco and Cresencia Abalos from Mangaldan, Pangasinan who were staying on the eighth floor of the building in Rue Erlanger in Paris’ 16th arrondisem­ent.

In an interview on ABS-CBN, Caroline and Lovie Oriendo, the couple’s friends,

said they rushed to the scene after they learned about the incident and after the Abaloses’ child told them that the couple could not be reached by phone.

The Philippine embassy in France coordinate­d with authoritie­s to determine if there were Filipinos among the 10 fatalities and 37 injured in the blaze that struck the eight-story building near the stadium that is home to popular football club Paris Saint-Germain.

A woman has been arrested as suspect in the city’s worst fire in 14 years.
