BUTUAN CITY – A manhunt for the driver of a vehicle who figured in a hit-and-run in Agusan del Norte that left a volunteer doctor dead on Thursday night is ongoing.

Zuriele Arambulo, 28, a resident of Cainta, Rizal assigned in Santiago town under the Department of Health’s (DOH) Doctor to the Barrios program, had just alighted from a bus when she was hit by a black sport utility vehicle. She was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.

Police set up checkpoints along the highway in this city to apprehend the suspect.

In a statement issued on Friday, the DOH appealed to the driver of the vehicle to surrender.

“We are saddened that another physician impassioned to serve the Filipino people has been taken at a time when there is a dire need for public health workers in underserved and remote areas of the country,” the DOH said.
