P2.2-M smuggled cigarettes seized in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY –At least 148 boxes of smuggled cigarettes worth P2.2 million were confiscate­d from a commercial vessel at a port here yesterday.

Personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcemen­t Agency-Zamboanga peninsula office, Joint Task Force Zamboanga, Bureau of Customs (BOC) and Armed Forces of the Philippine­s Intelligen­ce Service seized the cigarettes on M/V Kristel Jane 3 that came from Jolo.

The BOC said the smuggled cigarettes could have originated from Malaysia.

No one has claimed ownership of the shipment.
