BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya – Senior Superintendent Richard Saavedra has assumed his post as the new police director of this province.

Saavedra, former police director of Siquijor, replaced Senior Superintendent Jeremias Aglugub, who was relieved from his post after the killing of National Democratic Front consultant Randy Felix Malayao on Jan. 30.

Chief Inspector Geovanni Cejes, Aritao police chief, who was also relieved from his post following the incident, was replaced by Inspector Jerome Simeon.

Aglugub and Cejes were accused of mishandling evidence when they turned over the cell phones, laptop and other personal belongings recovered from Malayao to his sister Perla Upano.

Malayao was shot while sleeping in a bus bound for Tuguegarao, Cagayan during a stopover in Barangay Darapidap, Aritao.

Malayao was buried at a public cemetery in San Pablo, Isabela on Thursday.
