BI to deport Swedish man wanted for fraud

- – Evelyn Macairan

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is set to deport a Swedish man wanted for large-scale fraud in his country.

Kenneth Tobias Christoffer Moberg, 28, was arrested in San Enrique, Iloilo by agents of the BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) and local police on Feb. 11.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said Moberg is being held at the BI facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City pending his deportation.

Morente said Moberg would be included in the BI’s blacklist to prevent him from reentering the Philippines.

The Bangkok-based Nordic Police and Customs Cooperation sought the BI’s assistance in capturing the fugitive, according to Morente.

A Swedish court had issued a warrant for Moberg’s arrest on charges of fraud and unlawful use of identity.

FSU chief Bobby Raquepo said Moberg has been overstaying in the country after his passport was revoked by the Swedish government.

The Swedish fugitive arrived in the Philippines as a tourist in May last year.
