Lawasia conference tackles Asian business law developments

The 2019 Lawasia Business Law Conference will be held March 14-16 at the University of the Philippines Bonifacio Global City Auditorium in Taguig, Metro Manila.

The conference, titled “Keeping Abreast with Asian Business Law Developments,” is jointly hosted by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) and Lawasia Philippines Inc. (Lawasia PH) and in partnership with Law Association for Asia and Western Pacific (Lawasia International).

The 2019 Lawasia Business Law Conference features in-depth discussions hosted by foreign and local leaders, of the latest issues and developmental trends in Asian business law.

Topics to be discussed will be infrastructure projects in Asia like the “Belt and Road Initiative,” and the Philippines’ “Build, Build, Build” program, environmental laws and climate change, data privacy protection, anti-trust and competition law; corporations, limited companies and other artificial persons; the Collapse of the Crypto Currency World: Regulations, Securities Token Offerings, Blockchain Ecosystems and Way Forward; cross-border investments, arbitration and insolvency; joint ventures and other collaborative investment structures, and taxation in Asia.

Due to the relevance of the topics, the organizers, through the IBP, are applying to have the conference accredited for mandatory continuing legal education units in time for the deadline of the sixth compliance period on April 14. Accreditation is already in process and more details on the subject and number of units to be credited will be announced in the official conference website.

The IBP, the Philippines’ official bar association, is the accredited member of Lawasia International which was established in Canberra, Australia in August 1966 as a regional association covering the Economic Commission of Asia and the Far East Region.

The Asian Development Bank is involved in the conference, in line with its thrust and vision of responding to the evolving needs of Asia and the Pacific. It has partnered with Lawasia International, IBP, and Lawasia PH pursuant to its upcoming annual conference whose theme is “Prosperity Through Unity”.
