PNP sets sights on heavily tinted vehicles

As part of its campaign to instill discipline on the road, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has set its sights on heavily tinted vehicles.

PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said the use of cars with dark tints on the windshields poses a problem with the implementation of two laws: Republic Act 10913 or the Anti-Distracted Driving Act and RA 8750 or the Seat Belt Law.

In a recent interview with reporters, Albayalde said he found it odd that vehicles with dark tinted windshields exist while there are two existing laws on the use of cell phones and seat belts in the country.

He said deploying more police officers on the road is useless if law- men could not see what is happening inside vehicles.

“How can you see that person is using his cell phone where in fact you cannot even see what’s inside?” he said.

Albayalde has already voiced his concerns to Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.

“These are all in the pipeline.

Gagawin natin lahat (We will do everything). This is just the start of our effort between and among the concerned agencies,” he said.

The PNP on Monday deployed 300 personnel from the Highway Patrol Group to support the Interagency Council for Traffic to help direct traffic in Metro Manila.
