The sweetest contest ever

-

We’ve held countless contests for readers and followers through the years but none as sweet as what we’re announcing today. For the first time ever, we’re giving away the most delicious treats from See’s Candies as prizes plus as a bonus for our No. 1 winner, we’re adding a boxing glove autographed by WBA welterweight champion Sen. Manny Pacquiao. So this will be the sweetest knockout ever in our contest history.

It was in 1921 when See’s Candies was established in Los Angeles by the See family. From one shop, See’s Candies has grown to 78 stores all over California, becoming a much-loved brand for its uncompromising quality, special recipes and out-of-this-world sweets. Through the Great Depression and World War II, consumers kept See’s Candies alive and thriving. Families made it a habit to grow with See’s Candies, never giving up on a good thing. Those free samples in every store were an attraction and visitors never walked away without a bag to bring home.

My wife Menchu’s personal favorite is the Scotchmallow Bar. A few weeks ago, See’s Candies introduced a limited edition Mint Scotchmallow chocolate and I’ve already ordered some. What you appreciate about See’s Candies is they’ve got something for everyone’s taste. Whether it’s sugar free or not, fruit-based or not, dark or milk chocolate or whatever, the menu is so varied that no matter your preference, there’s something special waiting for you.

So when See’s Candies opened a store here last December, my reaction was “finally.” Mackie Uson, See’s Candies communications director, said, “We were very excited to be given a warm welcome by customers in Manila … they were happy about no longer having to wait for friends and family to return from the US with See’s … the number of followers on our Instagram account @seescandiesmanila went from 120 to 1,350 within a one-week period after a successful Valentine’s Day campaign that introduced Hunter BeloPitt as the first-ever See’s Candies Manila Cupid.”

See’s Candies Manila’s first permanent store is at EDSA Shangri-La Mall while the Power Plant location will stay open until March 31.

To give readers and followers a chance to live the See’s Candies experience, we’re giving away a one-pound box of See’s Candies assorted chocolates, a one-pound box of assorted lollipops in four flavors and a boxing glove autographed by Sen. Pacquiao to our first prize winner. The second and third prize winners will receive a 10-ounce box of See’s Candies “crunchy, nutty goodness” Peanut Brittle.

It’s easy to join the contest and win. Just send in the correct answers to three questions and in three sentences, describe the sweetest moment you’re ever experienced or witnessed in sports. The three questions are:

• Who’s the NBA’s all-time leader in points scored off the bench nicknamed Sweet Lou? He’s 32 and a two-time Sixth Man of the Year awardee. Sweet Lou has played for six teams since breaking into the NBA as the Philadelphia 76ers’ second round draft pick in 2005. Give his full name and current NBA team.

• What is the theme song of the Harlem Globetrotters?

• Who were three former world boxing champions nicknamed Sugar?
