Anvil Business Club: Promoting idealism and action
-
By WILSON LEE FLORES
Anvil Business Club has undertaken numerous sociocivic programs in the fields of calamity relief, education and other charities, because young Filipino-Chinese entrepreneurs want to continue our forebears’ centuries-old tradition of philanthropy in the Philippines. We believe that business success and economic growth are not sufficient, that entrepreneurs can help alleviate poverty and solve social problems through civic action, philanthropy and supporting progressive reforms.
Among the Philippine and Asian business leaders whom Anvil Business Club’s young Filipino-Chinese entrepreneurs admire include our adviser FFCCCII chairman emeritus and PAL/PNB/LT Group chairman Dr. Lucio Tan, the late SM and BDO founder Henry Sy, Sr., JG Summit Holdings, Inc. and Cebu Pacific Air founder John Gokongwei, Jr. (who was one of our most unforgettable speakers at an Anvil Exchange Forum), Shangrila Hotel chain founder Robert Kuok Hock Nien (his memoirs has become a favorite book of Anvil officers and members), the late Metrobank/PSBank/Axa Life boss George S.K. Ty, Filinvest Group and East Bank founders Andrew Gotianun and his wife Mercedes Tan Gotianun, Vista Land founder Manny Villar and his wife, co-founder Sen. Cynthia Villar, BDO chairperson Teresita “Tessie” Sy Coson, JG Summit Holdings CEO Lance Gokongwei, PLDT/Smart/Meralco/First Pacific Group boss Manuel “Manny” Pangilinan, and many others.
