- Words and photos by MANNY N. DE LOS REYES

THE much-awaited all-new Jeep Wrangler looks almost exactly the same as its legendary predecessor, but for its legion of diehard fans and enthusiasts worldwide, that’s just how they want it to be.

The Jeep legacy continues in the Philippines as Auto Nation Group, the official distributor of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM vehicles in the country, unveiled last Wednesday the all-new Wrangler. Recognized as Jeep’s most capable SUV and the embodiment of the iconic American brand, the all-new Wrangler keeps pace with today’s modern cars, from its overall exterior and cabin design to its fuel-efficient powertrains and advanced safety and technology features.

“The Jeep brand is well-recognized around the world and there is no vehicle that represents the essence of Jeep the same way the Wrangler does. Its comeback is also timely for us as we mark our 15th anniversary with the brand as its official importer and distributor in the Philippines,” said Francis Jonathan C. Ang, chief operating officer of Auto Nation Group.

The new Wrangler epitomizes a true SUV’s evolution that has spanned seven decades since its conception in 1941. This latest generation of the Wrangler is the embodiment of Jeep’s legendary history and its journey to the future.

Modern take on the iconic Wrangler design

For more than 70 years, Jeep has preserved the distinguishable look of the Wrangler and the new Wrangler is no exception. The new Wrangler’s profile is built on a sculptural design aesthetic that is immediately recognizable with its angular roofline, muscular fenders, and high stance while keeping its traditional Jeep design cues.

The new exterior design is bold and rugged with a wide and lowered beltline, fitted with larger windows for better outward visibility on the trails and a panoramic view in the open.

KEEPING TRUE TO ITS ICONIC STATUS, THE ALL-NEW WRANGLER KEEPS ITS RUGGED-YET-DISTINGUISHED STANCE WHILE SPORTING A MODERN DESIGN AS SEEN IN THE REDESIGNED 7-SLOT GRILLE, HEAD LAMP AND SQUARE TAIL LAMPS, AMONG OTHERS. THE INTERIOR COMBINES AUTHENTIC STYLING, VERSATILITY, COMFORT AND INTUITIVE FEATURE USE.

Going to the rear, the Wrangler sports new square LED tail lamps which are now slightly offset on the Wrangler’s body to integrate one of the technological advancements of the vehicle – blind spot monitoring.

It is now easier and more fun to enjoy open-air driving as the Wrangler’s lightweight aluminum built makes key parts such as the hood, fenders, swing gate, doors and hinges easy to remove in less than 20 minutes. The windshield can easily be folded down while retaining the rearview mirror in place. Additionally, the new Wrangler comes with bodycolored sport bars, which are welded to the body and feature integrated grab handles.

JEEP INTERIOR: HERITAGE STYLE MEETS NEW TECH

The all-new Wrangler’s interior combines authentic styling, versatility, comfort and intuitive feature use. The modern yet iconic design of the Wrangler continues inside the vehicle, defined by sculptured forms, signature Jeep design elements, soft touch highquality materials, and state-of-theart technology that make it equal and comparable to luxury SUVs. Everything in the driver’s cockpit – from the new steering wheel to the reconfigurable driver cluster – is designed for intuitive use.

The heritage-inspired center console integrates basic functions within easy reach such as the new media center, which contains the charging and connectivity ports, climate and volume control knobs, and Engine Stop Start control. It also houses the gear shifts, transfer case and parking brake.

The center console is built with a third-generation Uconnect system, which features a 5-inch screen display with a customizable drag and drop feature in the menu. Alongside it is the 3.5-inch instrument cluster that displays reconfigurable information such as media, tire pressure, and speed among others.

Integrated buttons on the steering wheel control audio, voice, and speed functions, allowing drivers to keep their hands on the steering wheel at all times.

The new Wrangler also offers generous space including an underfloor storage, durable mesh pockets that extend the entire length of the doors, and numerous phone storage areas.

BEST-IN-CLASS ENGINE AND SAFETY FEATURES

The all-new Wrangler comes with a new engine option with the fuelefficient 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with Engine StopStart (ESS) on top of the tried and tested 3.6-liter Pentastar petrol V6 engine. This 284hp engine is ready to provide you with power and will deliver up to 400Nm of torque. Mated with an eightspeed automatic, the new Wrangler can tackle any challenge or obstacle with ease and confidence.

“We are introducing a best-in-class 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine on the all-new generation Jeep Wrangler, mated with an 8-speed transmission, as an option to the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine which Jeep fans and aficionados have grown to love. The combination of a 2.0-liter engine with an 8-speed transmission offers optimal engine output, improved highway economy, and reduced noise and vibration, giving you a worryfree journey in any adventure, be it in the city or on the most challenging of terrains,” said Vincent Gaviño, sales and marketing head for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM of Auto Nation Group.

The new Wrangler receives a huge upgrade on safety and security with more than 75 available active and passive safety and security features which include blind spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, parkview rear backup camera with dynamic grid lines, electronic stability control and multiple airbags.

The all-new Wrangler will be available for pre-orders and reservations starting March 14 at all Jeep dealerships nationwide (EDSA Greenhills, Alabang, Clark Pampanga and Cebu) at the following prices:
