Film screenings at DlS-cSB

A selection of films that examines migration, forms of subverting and proposing existing challenges, and tackles ways that creatively engage, rethink and resist the present is set to be shown at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Museum of Contempora­ry Art and Design (MCAD).

Yield, a documentar­y on child labor, is slated on March 20, 22 and 24. It also champions the virtue of innocence, and acknowledg­es that even the direst situations cannot completely strip a child’s ability to hope.

Sa Palad ng Dantaong Kulang, which tackles the struggles of Tondo residents, is scheduled on March 27, 29 and 31. The film looks at the impact of the continuing lack of concrete and long-term assistance from the government in the light of changes in the community.

Balikbayan, directed by National Artist for Film Kidlat Tahimik and a project inspired by Ferdinand Magellan’s slave Enrique de Malacca, is set on April 3, 5 and 7. The story expands narration into the present-day search for Malacca.

The S-Express Program by Alexis Tioseco is slated on April 10 and 12. Films in the series include Raymond Red’s A Study for the Skies; Auraeus Solito’s The Brief Lifespan of Fire, Act 2 Scene 2, Suring & the Kuk-ok; and Christophe­r Gozum’s Gugurlis Ed Banua. A complement to the exhibit titled the center will not hold, the entire viewing is curated by editor, writer and filmmaker Erwin Romulo.

Schedules are Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays of March and April, from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the MCAD Multimedia Room. Screenings are free.
