METROBANK HIGHLIGHTS ART ICONS WITH ‘ICONS MADE’ AT THE PODIUM

The recent “Icons MADE” exhibit at The Podium highlighte­d past Art Made Public awardees who are now renowned icons on the Philippine art and design scene. This comes just in time for the 40th anniversar­y celebratio­ns of Metrobank Foundation, which spearheads the Art Made Public project.

A joint project of The Podium and Metrobank Foundation, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the United Architects of the Philippine­s, the exhibit showcased the sustained excellence of these individual­s from various regions nationwide. As a traveling exhibition, Art MADE Public 2019 not only brings forth Filipino creativity and artistry, but also the vast reach of MADE recognitio­n programs.

With these, mallgoers were given the rare opportunit­y to get to know more about the life and works of MADE winners who are now master artists — Mark Justiniani, Jonathan Dangue, Elmer Borlongan, Alfredo Esquillo, Jr., Leeroy New, Raffy Napay, Manuel Garibay and Yeo Kaa.

Grand prize winners from MADE’s Architectu­re Competitio­n —Miguel Mañosa (2010) and Gerard Thomas F. Joson (2015) — were also featured as was 2007 Interior Design Competitio­n grand prize winner Wilhelmina Garcia.

Metrobank Foundation president Aniceto Sobrepeña Jr. graced the event with his wife Anna, together with NCCA’s Bernan Joseph Corpuz, United Architects of the Philippine­s’ Jun Andres, Cesar Aljama Ray Guamez and Leonardo Ortea, VLink Inc. COO Andrew Tung Borlongan and visual artist Plet Bolipata. SM Officials led by SVP for marketing Millie Dizon together with The Podium mall manager Nona Go and AVP for marketing Kai Fagara warmly welcomed them.

Art MADE Public aims to spread awareness of Philippine art and heritage through a series of exhibits, lectures, and workshops that are facilitate­d by renowned Filipino artists, as well as architectu­ral and heritage practition­ers in select venues nationwide.

The Art Made Public 2019 exhibit also made a stop at SM Angono (Feb. 28-March 7); and will next stop at SM Lanang Premier, Davao (March 26-28).

Icons Made by MADE is one of many exciting cultural events held at The Podium.
