Alab bares Pinoy firefighters’ courage

-

ABS-CBN’s DocuCentral team celebrates the courage and camaraderie of Filipino firefighters in the special documentary Alab, airing tomorrow, March 30, at 5:15 p.m.

Alab is a riveting onehour documentary that follows volunteer firefighters as they respond to emergencies during the country’s fire prevention month. With footage from helmet and body cameras, as well as file videos, of the volunteers battling raging infernos, the docu gives viewers a rare inside look into what goes on inside fire incidents all over the metro. Moreover, it offers a peek inside the fire station brotherhood and the raw, emotional struggles of their everyday battles to save a life or to rescue a comrade.

The latest piece from ABS-CBN DocuCentral encapsulates the meaning of camaraderie in the fire service as it tells of the story of the brigade’s most devastating loss in 21 years, when four volunteer firemen perished in the 1997 Caloocan garments factory fire. One of them was 20-year-old volunteer Mark Steven Relucio from the Caloocan City Filipino Chinese Fire Prevention Association. Through entries in his diaries, emotional interviews with his colleagues, and news reports, Alab bares the simple joys, adrenaline rushes, and sorrows of volunteer firefighters, who passionately serve and risk their lives without expecting anything in return.

Alab is among the featured documentaries on DocuCentral Presents, which will air Saturdays for several weeks. The Kapamilya network’s docu team is coming off a fruitful 2018, wherein it won a Gold World Medal at the New York Festivals (NYF) and a Gold Dolphin at the Cannes Corporate Media and TV Awards for its Di Ka Pasisiil piece with broadcast journalists Jeff Canoy and Chiara Zambrano, and a Silver World Medal at the NYF for the docu series Local Legends.

Watch it on ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN HD and online via iWant.ph and skyondemand.com.ph.
