Brillante’s Alpha wins Jury Prize in France

Brillante Mendoza’s Alpha, The Right

to Kill won the Jury Prize Ex-Aequo at the Le Beaune Festival Internatio­nal du Film Policier de Beaune (11th Beaune Internatio­nal Police Film Festival) held in eastern France, April 3 to 7.

Written by Troy Espiritu and produced by Carlo Valenzona, the film is set against the Philippine government’s war on drugs as the police force plans to assault the lair of a notorious drug dealer within the slums of Metro Manila. It stars Allen Dizon (in photo with Brillante), Baron Geisler and Elijah Filamor. The film also won the Special Jury Prize Award at San Sebastian Internatio­nal Film Festival in Spain in September last year. The Grand Prize was awarded to

Cities of Last Things by Wi Ding Ho (China, Taiwan, France and USA) while Italy’s Piranhas by Claudio Giovanessi also received the Jury Prize Ex-Aequo.
