WHEN ‘BEE-STUNG LIPS’ IS A GOOD THING

Lip care favorite Burt’s Bees comes up with a 3-step regimen

- By MARBBIE TAGABUCBA

The three-step skincare isn’t just cleanse, tone, moisturize anymore.

Burt’s Bees Philippines brand manager Daye delos Reyes wants us to care for another part of our face, too. “The lips have been neglected long enough. It is one of the most used parts of our body — when we talk, when we eat. It deserves more care. We tend to focus our skincare on our face. There’s even the Korean 10step regimen. But what about our lips?”

Burt’s Bees has a wide range of lipcare products among its skincare offerings which include creamy, highly-pigmented, makeup-grade lipsticks; but their bestselling product remains the All-Weather SPF 15 Moisturizing Lip Balm, a prime example of the brand harnessing nature’s bounty with 100-percent natural ingredi

ents free of parabens, phthalates, petrolatum and SLS. One tube is purchased every single second somewhere in the world. It gets an upgrade just in time for summer with the Cucumber Mint Lip Balm, which nourishes the lips with the soothing effect of one of Burt’s Bees favorite ingredients, natural analgesic peppermint oil which revitalizes with cool cucumber extracts.

Burt’s Bees’ Philippines distributor, Clorox’s sales and marketing director Paulo Lao, explains the SPF amount: “It is the level where we can guarantee a light, barely-there finish. Anything more is not wearable.”

It is so essential that Daye shares she and most customers keep one for their bag, one by their bedside, one for the office table, and some in their car. But just as simply applying moisturizer isn’t enough to maintain one’s best skin, a swipe of lip balm — especially with the preference for the rather drying matte lipsticks — isn’t enough to keep lips plump and healthy. By bringing in the three-step lipcare range, the all-natural skincare brand distributed locally by Clorox hopes to inspire Filipinas to take better care of their kissers.

1. The first step is to exfoliate with the Conditioning Lip Scrub. It doesn’t just allow the following nourishing steps to penetrate better; it also promotes renewal, thanks to honey crystals that moisturize as they buff away rough, flaky skin. Responsibly sourced beeswax and cocoa butter allow the honey crystals to exfoliate without dryness, instead leaving the lips with a smooth, soft finish. But try not to overdo it; scrub the product two to three times a week. Apply product against the surface of the lips in a circular motion. Finish by rinsing off the product and apply Burt’s Bees Overnight Intensive Lip Treatment.

2. The Overnight Intensive Lip Treatment is a ceramide-packed formula that helps reduce the appearance of fine lines as it combats dryness, while peppermint soothes throughout the process as vitamin E-rich jojoba oil heals. Apply a generous layer before bed — I liken it to a sleeping mask in Korean skincare as the last step of your regimen — and wake up to healthier, smoother lips in the morning.

3. For a hint of tint with eight-hour moisturization during the day, follow it up with the Tinted Lip Balm that combines shea butter, vitamin E and pear flavor in six floral-inspired shades: Pink Blossom, Hibiscus, Rose, Red Dahlia, Sweet Violet and Zinnia.
