KAREN ELIZALDE:

One-on-one time with kids every day is important

-

It is no easy task to raise three girls. Karen can attest to this. “I am overwhelmed by how much energy they have, especially my youngest, it’s hard to keep up,” she says. But the rewards, she shares, are priceless: it is seeing each of them succeed in their own ways. “I do tend to push the kids, but not to the extent of being a ‘tiger mom.’ I stress that they need to persevere in what they do and focus on their goals for them to succeed, and not quit at the first opportunity. I try to enrich them with the best possible means for education, as that will give them tools to do well in life.”

Despite her busy schedule managing restaurants in Boracay (Hobbit Tavern, Jeepney Stop, Thai Basil and Super Sub) and handling her trunk show/bazaar endeavor Souq, she maintains balance and motherhood by being present in all of her kids’ activities. She picks them up every day from school.

“They trust me, and tell me everything! They like to tell me what’s bothering them, and I advise them how to handle certain tricky situations,” she says. “The kids’ needs are my number-one priority. I make sure to have one-on-one time with all of them every day, and put them to sleep at night.”

For an elegant style, she wears a lot of solids and classic patterns that can be mix-matched. She likes it fun, flirty and feminine, so she enjoys Esprit summer staples: tropical colors and prints. She relies on the comfortable shoes of Clarks for long days at work. As for her kids, Angelina is proud wearing her printed floral dress from OshKosh B’gosh; Sophia loves her super-soft and twirl-worthy dress while Mary prefers the all-time favorite, overalls.
