Ang Huling El Bimbo back for more shows

-

After a brief respite, the musical that struck a chord in the hearts of Filipinos with the songs of a generation returns this month. Resorts World Manila’s (RWM) Ang Huling El Bimbo resumes its performances at the Newport Performing Arts Theater starting last May 11.

Back onstage are Gian Magdangal, David Ezra, Jon Santos, Rafa Siguion-Reyna, OJ Mariano, Myke Salomon (also the play’s musical director), Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo (also associate director), Carla GuevaraLaforteza, Rab Atadero, Bibo Reyes, Boo Gabunada, Nicco Manalo, Tanya Manalang, Lance Reblando, Phil Palmos, Gabriella Pangilinan, Sheila Francisco and Jaime Wilson.

Critics and audiences hailed the musical for its fantastic arrangements and compelling storyline. “I cried. It was beautiful,” said King of Talk Boy Abunda after watching a performance.

“Everything was presented beautifully. I got emotional. It was powerful. You remember a lot of things and the story takes you to so many aspects of your life,” he added.

Written by noted playwright Dingdong Novenario, Ang Huling El Bimbo tells the story of four friends who barely survive the challenges of college life in the ‘90s, only to be confronted by the harsh realities of the present. Told through the most unforgettable anthems of that decade, the jukebox musical sets itself apart from other productions with its dark yet hopeful overtones of what Pinoy life is all about, then and now.

The musical runs until May 26 with shows every Friday, Satuday and Sunday at 8 p.m. and matinee performances every Saturday and Sunday (and on May 24) at 3.pm.

Tickets are available at the RWM Box Office and TicketWorld outlets. For details, visit www.rwmanila.com.
