If you have youngsters who show signs of being potential bakers or cooks, you must check this out.

One morning recently, we found our 10-yearold apo B busy in the kitchen. She was cracking an Oreo cookie in a small mixing bowl. Then she added tiny marsmallows and milk. She mixed them well, then thrust it into the microwave oven to warm it. Voila! an alternative to her breakfast cereal. She shows signs of being a potential whiz in the kitchen.

Thus we are delighted that this summer, the Maya Kitchen is once again offering their Kids Culinary Bootcamps to teach young boys and girls basic culinary skills with easy recipes for them to follow. If you have youngsters who show signs of being potential bakers or cooks, you must check this out.

Young children from age 6 can be enrolled. Those aged 6 to 12 can join the classes from June 4 to 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. One can choose a 4-day or 2-day program. For teens aged 13 to 18, the Young Adults Culinary classes from June 13 to 14, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will have experienced chefs imparting their skills to participants.

In these programs, participants, guided by experienced chefs, will learn basic cooking chores as well as familiarize themselves with different cuisines. One would know the difference between slicing and mincing and between boiling and braising. Additional know-how will be on healthy eating, home responsibilities and better understanding of what food is served.

This will be good as well for those tasked to prepare food, not only the mistresses of the house but

kasambahays who do the daily preparation of meals for families. Of course there are cook books they can refer to, but actual witnessing of the process will do much more good.

Interested? Contact Maya Kitchen Culinary Center at 8/F Liberty Building, 835 Arnaiz Avenue, Makati City, tel. 892-1185 or visit www.themayakitchen.com or visit Maya kitchen on Facebook. There is pride and great satisfaction for the food on your table if it is the handiwork of the woman in the house.

Cook and make your family proud of you and enjoy the food you prepare for them.

Have a happy Sunday meal!
