55 summa grads to lead UP rites
A record-high 55 summa
cum laude graduates will lead the 2019 commencement exercises of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City this Sunday.
A total of 3,981 students will receive undergraduate degrees, while 1,069 will be conferred graduate diplomas, master’s or doctoral degrees.
Joshua Emmanuel Ramos, who is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy (BA Philo) degree, will speak
on behalf of the graduating class.
He obtained a weighted average grade of 1.096, well above the minimum 1.20 needed to graduate as summa cum laude, the university’s highest academic distinction for graduates.
Topping the list of graduates is Jaron Nicolas Uy (Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering/BS ChE, 1.019) followed by Reine Jiana Reynoso (BS in Electronics and Communications Engineering/BS ECE, 1.027); Samantha Amante (BS in Business Administration/BS BA, 1.071); Jamie Christine Lim (BS Mathematics/BS Math, 1.073); and Sethric Andre Mesoza (BS Math, 1.078).
They are followed by Lea Andrei San Juan (Bachelor of Sports Science/BSS, 1.088); Bianca Isadora Germar (BA Anthropology, 1.089); Mariel Santos (BS Psychology, 1.110); Joshua Miguel Danac (BS Molecular Biology and Biotechnology/BS MBB, 1.113); Anna Michaella dela Cruz (BSS, 1.116); Jody Kirsten Uy (BS Secondary Education, 1.118); Helli-Mar Trilles (BS Civil Engineering/BS CE, 1.122); Jasper Jamir (BS ECE, 1.127); Raphaelle Joshua Traballo (BS BA,1.130).

The university said 1,058 graduates will receive the Latin distinction of magna cum laude, while 392 will graduate with cum laude honors.
National Artist for Theater Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio, who is also a professor emeritus at the UP College of Arts and Letters, will be the commencement speaker.
