55 summa grads to lead UP rites

A record-high 55 summa

cum laude graduates will lead the 2019 commenceme­nt exercises of the University of the Philippine­s in Diliman, Quezon City this Sunday.

A total of 3,981 students will receive undergradu­ate degrees, while 1,069 will be conferred graduate diplomas, master’s or doctoral degrees.

Joshua Emmanuel Ramos, who is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy (BA Philo) degree, will speak

on behalf of the graduating class.

He obtained a weighted average grade of 1.096, well above the minimum 1.20 needed to graduate as summa cum laude, the university’s highest academic distinctio­n for graduates.

Topping the list of graduates is Jaron Nicolas Uy (Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineerin­g/BS ChE, 1.019) followed by Reine Jiana Reynoso (BS in Electronic­s and Communicat­ions Engineerin­g/BS ECE, 1.027); Samantha Amante (BS in Business Administra­tion/BS BA, 1.071); Jamie Christine Lim (BS Mathematic­s/BS Math, 1.073); and Sethric Andre Mesoza (BS Math, 1.078).

They are followed by Lea Andrei San Juan (Bachelor of Sports Science/BSS, 1.088); Bianca Isadora Germar (BA Anthropolo­gy, 1.089); Mariel Santos (BS Psychology, 1.110); Joshua Miguel Danac (BS Molecular Biology and Biotechnol­ogy/BS MBB, 1.113); Anna Michaella dela Cruz (BSS, 1.116); Jody Kirsten Uy (BS Secondary Education, 1.118); Helli-Mar Trilles (BS Civil Engineerin­g/BS CE, 1.122); Jasper Jamir (BS ECE, 1.127); Raphaelle Joshua Traballo (BS BA,1.130).

Also graduating with top honors are Aleeza Dana Sy (BS Industrial Engineerin­g/ BS IE, 1.131); Raphael Don Tantan (BS Business Administra­tion and Accountanc­y/ BS BAA, 1.133); Jerielle Malonzo (BS Math, 1.134); Xaika Nadine Saldivar (BA Broadcast Communicat­ion, 1.135); Christian Fitzedward Tan (BS Economics/BS Econ, 1.142); Stanley Brian Sayson (BS CE, 1.146); Ciana Lim (BS Computer Science/BS CS, 1.154); Eloise Misa (BS Math, 1.155); Ara Isobel Mercado (B Fine Arts, 1.156); Weand Ybañez (BS MBB, 1.158); Erika Antonette Enriquez (BS Math, 1.161); Isabella Mae Tan (B FA, 1.163); Wilbert Jacob Julio (BS ChE, 1.165); Carlos Emmanuel Garcia (BS Mechanical Engineerin­g, 1.166); and Maru Feriel del Carmen (BS ChE, 1.167).

Rounding up the list are Francis Zac dela Cruz (BS CS, 1.191); Kwen Kwen Cabalagnan (BA Philo, 1.193); Exequiel Kim Isaac Salvador (BS Math, 1.193); Edrea Faustina Choan (BS BA, 1.193); Emilio Paul Nogales (BS ChE, 1.194); Aaron Cris Vegan (B SS, 1.195); John Anthony Kho (BS ChE, 1.196); Carissa Andrea Lim (BS BAA, 1.196); Dana Sison (BA European Languages, 1.197); and Francesca Sy (BS CE, 1.199).

The university said 1,058 graduates will receive the Latin distinctio­n of magna cum laude, while 392 will graduate with cum laude honors.

National Artist for Theater Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio, who is also a professor emeritus at the UP College of Arts and Letters, will be the commenceme­nt speaker.
