The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has begun accepting applications for eight Court of Appeals (CA) associate justice vacancy positions, after four of them were elevated to the Supreme Court (SC) and four others retired.

The JBC said yesterday the CAAssociate Justices who were appointed to the SC were Associate Justices Ramon Paul Hernando who was appointed last Oct. 10, Rosmari Carandang on Nov. 26, Henri Jean Paul Inting on Feb. 22 and Amy Lazaro-Javier on March 6.

The CA justices who retired are Normandie Pizarro on Feb. 7, Carmelita Manahan on March 21 and Sesinando Villon on July 16. CA Associate Justice Edward Contreras took early retirement, which was approved on July 9.

SC Clerk of Court and JBC ex officio Edgar Aricheta said those interested to apply for the positions of CA associate justice are required to submit two complete sets of application or recommendation with conforme, along with all the documentary requirements.

These documents should be submitted to the JBC not later than 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 3. The JBC office is located on the second floor of the Centennial Building of the SC on Padre Faura Street, Manila City.

“A recommendation or nomination filed in lieu of an application may be given due course only if the recommendee has signified his or her acceptance thereof either in the recommendation itself or in a separate document, and has submitted two complete sets of the documentary requirements,” Aricheta said.

He said the date of the actual receipt by the JBC of the complete documentary requirements of the applicant or recommendee shall be deemed as the date of filing.

“Incomplete applications and/or out-ofdate documentary requirements and those submitted beyond the deadline shall not be given due course,” Aricheta added.
