Emperador earnings rise 2% to P3.25 B

- By IRIS GONZALES

Emperador Inc., the Andrew Tan-led brandy company, reported a net income of P3.25 billion in the first half, two percent higher than the previous year.

This was on the back of P21.4 billion in revenue or an increase of 10 percent year on year.

Emperador is behind different Spanish and sherry brandies including Fundador and scotch whiskey brands such as Dalmore and Jura.

Winston Co, president of Emperador, said the Fundador brand continues to attract new markets around the world while premiumizing the brandy category.

“Fundador’s latest accolade is testament to Fundador’s growing global premium image with Fundador Supremo 18 Oloroso Sherry Cask being named Best Brandy in the World in the 2019 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC),” he said.

Emperador also continues to benefit from premiumization and globalization of its whisky and brandy product portfolios.

“Whyte and Mackay continued to grow in every region of the world with flagship single malt whisky product, Dalmore, enjoying strong sales in Africa, Canada, France, Germany, Greater Europe, Asia and USA.

Overall, Whyte and Mackay’s malt whisky portfolio is doing well including Jura, Fettercairn, Tamnavulin and Shackleton,” Co said.

Angel Piña, chief commercial and marketing officer at Grupo Emperador Spain, said the company remains focused on achieving the highest quality for brandies.

Piña said that Fundador, Spain’s largest and oldest brandy – founded in 1730 in Jerez de la Frontera – and the Philippines’ number one selling premium imported brandy, continues to grow.

Given its steady growth, the company extended last May its two-year share buyback of up to P5 billion.

The company can repurchase up to P3 billion for another 12 months ending May 16, 2020.

Since the start of the buyback two years ago, about 310 million shares had been bought back, amounting to P2.2 billion.

Emperador, a publicly listed company at the Philippine Stock Exchange, owns Emperador Distillers, Scotch whisky maker Whyte and Mackay Group, and Bodegas Fundador in Spain.
