Across the Crescent Moon re-screened Sept. 8
The award-winning film Across the Crescent Moon — written, produced and directed by Baby Nebrida — will again be presented to the movie audience on Sept. 8 by the veteran filmmaker’s Maryknoll College (now known as Miriam College) classmates as part of their Golden Jubilee celebration. The repeat screening, which is held in cooperation with the Music Museum Group, will provide moviegoers the opportunity to watch it again at the Dolby Atmos Cinema 8 of Greenhills Promenade at the Greenhills Shopping Center. Ticketholders get invited to the pre-screening cocktails and a visual arts exhibit of works of the members of the class and their families at the theater lobby at 3 pm.
The acclaimed Filipino action-drama, which has also been viewed by an international audience since its launching in 2017, puts the spotlight on the menace of human trafficking alongside the strengthening of family ties in a Muslim-Christian marriage while bringing across a message of peace and unity. It stars Matteo Guidicelli as a Moslem Special Action Force (SAF) exemplary officer who is married to a Christian, played by Alex Godinez. He is tasked to investigate a human trafficking syndicate and in the process runs into conflict with his family. Christopher de Leon, Sandy Andolong, Gabby Concepcion, Dina Bonnevie, Jerico Estregan and Joem Bascon co-star in the film.
Across the Crescent Moon has received numerous awards, including Best Film Feature (Global) and Best Acting Ensemble in the International Festival of Manhattan, with a nomination for Best Director; Best Film chosen by Student Council Presidents in the Catholic Mass Media Awards 2017; and most recently, the Rotary International Golden Wheel Award in February 2019 for Excellence in Film Production and Writing. Nebrida herself was named 2017 Most Significant Woman of the Year awardee by the Department of Tourism and Ambassador for Peace by the International Parliamentarists Association in 2018.
The awards come as no surprise, as Nebrida is known for her socially relevant screenplays that sensitize people towards current issues. This advocacy, she says, stems from her education at Maryknoll College where she graduated with a degree in Communication Arts and in other Catholic schools during her elementary and high school. Her education has imbibed in the awardwinning screenwriter a strong sense of advocacy to make a difference in society. A Marian devotee, she also hosted, wrote, produced and directed the weekly TV show Heart to Heart Talk for six years, which won for PTV 4 the Anak TV Awards for Excellent Programming.
