Alaska IRONKIDS takes center stage today
LAPU LAPU CITY, Cebu— Cebu pride Moira Erediano and Errol Belonquil will be the favorites in the premier girls and boys 13-14 age group when the Alaska Fortified IRONKIDS unfolds today at the Shangri-La’s Mactan beach here.
Erediano, a Lapu Lapu native, will be eyeing her third straight title in her bracket while Belonquil, who is from Talisay City, will ride the crest of his victory in Davao last month and try to conquer his class in this event considered as the IRONMAN for junior athletes aged six to 14 years old.
Erediano, a student out of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, claimed her second title last year when she grinded out from seventh after the swim part to snare the crown.
It was an inspirational story for someone who started as a spectator six years ago and has become one of the best in the sport through sheer determination and will power.
“I will just give it my all in my last year, and hopefully win again,” said Erediano, who will turn 15 on Nov. 11.
For Belonquil, he is coming off an impressive showing in Davao where he beat Zedrick Borja, who won in this same race a year ago.
Erediano and Belonquil will lead the Talisay Luigi Triathlon Group, which wound up with 13 podium finishes last year, fielding in a total of 33 bets.
About 400 participants are seeing action in this event under the Alaska Sports Development program that aims to produce future top-class triathletes as well as promote a healthy lifestyle for children while luring them away from gadget and social media addiction.
