Good mix of serious, naughty tones for Cignal TV’s One PH

The country’s acknowledg­ed No. 1 Pay TV provider, Cignal TV, formally launched the all-Filipino news channel One PH with the intention to deliver informatio­n in both serious and light approaches, as the likes of hostcomedi­an Arnell Ignacio and TV anchor Ed Lingao out to bend their establishe­d on-cam personalit­ies for some refreshing take.

The star-studded event was held at the Cignal Experience Center last July 31, led by Raffy Tulfo and actress Jennica Garcia. It is the third Cignal channel under the One branding, the English-language news outfit

One News and sports newsfeed One Sports being the other two.

“One PH will be home to news programs that inform, educate, inspire and entertain, and likewise be a venue where Filipinos can seek help for their problems,” CignalTV VP of channel management Sienna Olaso noted.

The programmin­g block is headlined by noontime daily news program One Balita hosted by Tulfo and Jamie Herrell and primetime news Sa Totoo Lang anchored by Cheryl Cosim and Jove Francisco. Tulfo also brings

Wanted Sa Radyo wherein his notable brand of public service is showcased.

Most interestin­g among the programs, though, is one titled Wag Po, described as a daily evening talk show about the day’s top headlines. Lingao and Patrick Paez lead a pack of seasoned journalist­s, including Lourd de Veyra and Franciso, as they deliver the news delightful­ly informal.

Lingao explained, “The point of it is it is freewheeli­ng. We talk about serious issues in informal manner. People who are not normally interested in heavy issues will get engaged.” Asked if the Wag Po tone must be essentiall­y naughty, he cited, “Naughty din siya (It is also naught) because it is a good way to engage people. Many should be able to relate to it.”

The daughter of actress Jean Garcia, Jennica, along with Pat Fernandez, got on board as a millennial mom giving parenting tips in Inay Ko Po! while showbiz scoop A-listers Cristy Fermin, Lolit Solis and Mr. Fu, the DJ behind May Ganon expression, joined forces for Take It Per Minute.

Other popular broadcast media figures like Jay Taruc and Zaldy Perez are also part of the pool for the first weekly motorcycle show Ride Radio and game highlights Isport

Lang, respective­ly. The one-time public servant Ignacio is putting his natural side in full display for a public service program that somehow ensures the continuity of his effort to help people. Labeled as a comedian, he insisted that in truth, he is a serious fellow. He elaborated,

“Seryoso naman talaga ako (I’m actually serious) and I’m more relaxed na gawin ito (to do this). Hindi ko kailangang mag-effort (I need not make much effort).”
