ABS-CBN rolls out TVplus Go, turns smartphones into TV sets

Media and entertainment giant ABSCBN Corp. looks to accelerate the country’s migration to digital television in support of the government’s thrust to switch off analog transmission by 2023 with the nationwide rollout of the mobile version of its popular ABS-CBN TVplus.

The company yesterday said it has made ABS-CBN TVplus Go available nationwide to provide more Filipinos affordable access to entertainment on-the-go.

ABS-CBN TVplus Go, the mobile version of the popular TVplus box, turns Android smartphones into a “handheld TV” without consuming mobile data by acting as a digital TV broadcast receiver.

ABS-CBN said the product’s primarily target are the commuters who have no time to catch their favorite shows and channels at home.

“So now, Filipinos can enjoy Kapamilya shows outdoor on their Android phones with TVplus Go as much as they do on their TV’s at home with TVplus,” the firm said.

ABS-CBN said TVplus Go, which retails at P799, works in areas where digital TV signal is available, including Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Batangas, Tarlac, Pangasinan, Baguio City, Cavite, Laguna, Iloilo City, Bacolod City, Metro Cebu, Cagayan de Oro City, and Davao City.

The media giant is hoping the product would follow the success of its TVplus box, which made the company the country’s pioneer in digital terrestrial television when it was launched in 2015.
