UPSEAA: The hub of dynamic, innovative and participative membership

-

The University of the Philippines School of Economics Alumni Association (UPSEAA) celebrates its Grand Alumni Homecoming this September 7 with the theme, “Econ’To.” The theme captures the spirit of positivity, pride and ownership, dynamism and unity that has bound UP alumni inspired by the varsity team’s outstanding performance and surging victory in the UAAP. It is an allusion to the revival and renewed inspiration of UP Alumni which brought forth the “#UPFight” movement, mobilizing resources and providing all forms of support to the UP Varsity team. Similarly, the graduates of UPSE are proud to claim ownership of “Econ’To,” with full respect to our revered UP School of Economics, which is acknowledged for its academic supremacy, having produced many of our country’s top economists who are now leading lights in their respective fields of expertise.

Under the helm of president Jeffrey T. Ng, the UPSEAA has become a hub of dynamism, innovativeness and participative membership. UPSEAA members conceptualize plans and programs with a significant impact on the world, — for everyone to increase their level of awareness of global issues. The Association has opened new avenues for its members to express themselves, their opinions and expose themselves to situations where they can acquire new knowledge and practical solutions. Such innovative measures were developed by the UPSEAA Board of Trustees after a thorough strategic planning session, which included revisiting the vision and mission statements, thereby clearly setting the path and direction to be pursued by the association.

UPSEAA is very much alive and full of energy, innovative ideas and active participation of its members. True to its vision and mission, the Association is in the forefront of every conceivable activity by which it can reach out to its members and serve their needs.

All is set for UPSEAA ‘s 2019 Grand Alumni Homecoming. With the theme, “Econ’To,” major hosts are Class 1994 (Silver Jubilarians), Class 1979 (Ruby Jubilarians) and, for the first time, the Class of 1969 (Golden Jubilarians). Other Celebrant Batches are Class 1974 (Sapphire Jubilarians), Class 1984 (Emerald Jubilarians) and Class 1989 (Pearl Jubilarians). The Jubilarians are preparing special performances to liven up the homecoming.

The guest of honor and speaker for the event is Supreme Court Associate Justice Mario Victor ‘Marvic’ Leonen, a renowned alumnus of the UP School of Economics and 2019 UPAA Distinguished Alumni Awardee in Law and Judiciary.

The program will highlight a tribute to prominent UPSEAA members who are retiring from public service and academe: former BSP Deputy Governor Diwa C. Guinigundo, former UPSE Dean Emmanuel S. De Dios and Dr. Emmanuel F. Esguerra. Posthumous award will be given to Dr. Ponciano S. Intal, Jr. former president of the Philippine Institute of Development Studies (PIDS).
