3 LPAs, monsoon to bring more rains

- By HELEN FLORES

More rains are expected in the coming days due to three weather systems spotted within and outside the Philippine area of responsibility yesterday.

As of 3 p.m., two low-pressure areas were located at 405 kilometers west of extreme Northern Luzon and at 580 km northeast of Batanes, the Philippine Atmopheric, Geophysicaland Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

The low-pressure area west of extreme Northern Luzon was enhancing the southwest monsoon, bringing rains over most parts of Luzon, PAGASA weather specialist Ariel Rojas said.

As of 5 p.m. yesterday, Yellow Rainfall warning (heavy rains) was raised over Zambales, Tarlac and Pampanga.

Rojas said another low-pressure area was spotted at 1,740 km east of Southern Luzon.

It has a chance of intensifying into a cyclone before entering the country tomorrow or Thursday, he said.

Once it becomes a storm, it will be named Marilyn.

Meanwhile, the enhanced southwest monsoon will continue to bring rains over the Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region and Central Luzon.

Metro Manila, Calabarzon and Cagayan Valley will have scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.

The trough of the low pressure area east of Southern Luzon will bring rains over Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Davao region.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains due to thunderstorms.
