Mark the date and the venue: Sept. 28, 6 p.m. at the New Frontier Theater.

The much-awaited visitor is none other than K-drama actor Jung Hae-In for his One Summer Night Fan Meeting Tour 2019 that marks his second coming coinciding with the first same time last year.

Jung Hae-In broke into the showbiz scene at 26. Better late than never. It is said that he became deadset on becoming an actor while in the military service where he shed considerable weight as part of his preparation. His first acting experience was in a college musical.

According to the backgrounder furnished The STAR by Wilbros Live, producer of the Sept. 28 event, Jung had his official debut in 2014 in the TV series Bride of the Century, followed by the indie film The Youth and the historical series The Three Musketeers, and cameo appearances in various TV series and films until 2016.

It was in 2017 when Jung rose in popularity with the fantasy romance series While You Were Sleeping which ranked No. 1 in the ratings. In that same year, his historical movies The King’s Case Note and Conspiracy: Age of Rebellion were released, after which he was cast in Prison Playbook, a black comedy series in which he played an army captain convicted of assaulting a soldier in his unit until he died.

Last year, Jung did Heungboo: The Revolutionist, another historical film where he played King Heonjong, before starring in Something in the Rain, his first starring project with Son Ye-jin. He became even more popular. He then starred with Kim Go-eun in Yoo Yeol’s Music Album, a period romantic film.

Excerpts from an exclusive email interview with Jung Hae-In:

You were in Manila last year. What do you remember most about that visit where you met your Filipino fans?

“Enthusiasm and kindness of Filipino fans were most memorable to me.”

From your observation, how different are Filipino fans from the fans in Korea and other countries?

“I think loving heart and expressions are all same regardless of their nationality. The only difference is that there’s a bit of time delay when I communicate with Filipino fans because we need an interpreter for the communication.”

Away from the spotlight, how do you spend/enjoy your personal time?

“Usually, I spend my personal time at home. Talking and grabbing a beer with close people or spend time with my family. That’s what I do mostly when I have a free time.”

Tell us about some of your roles in films or television series. What characters are special to you, and what are closest to your heart?

“Yoo Ji Ho from One Spring Night is the most memorable character as it was really hard for me to personate that character. The role I felt closest to my heart is Seo Joon Hee from Something in the Rain.”

Any other role you want to portray in the future?

“I’m open to any roles I haven’t tried so far. I want to challenge the new role in the future.”

What is something that people don’t know about Jung Hae-In?

“I am a night owl. So I get up late in the morning.”
