Bloomfield Academy celebrates Science Olympics 2019

A venue to show great potential in mobilizing energy in the students, providing a synergized performanc­e task to encompass all subject areas to showcase different skills in one big activity is a welcome challenge.

Thus, the Science Olympics 2019 begins!

House colors adorn Bloomfield Academy once again as student teams go on a head-to-head battle of scientific prowess, technologi­cal skills, and wit in the Science Olympics 2019 competitio­ns on Sept. 1314, in Bloomfield Academy, Las Piñas City.

With the theme “Science for the People: Enabling Technologi­es for Sustainabl­e Developmen­t,” students from the Four Houses – Wind, Earth, Fire and Water – will participat­e in different events in their bid to become this year’s House Champion.

Science Olympics 2019 is organized by the Science department. The celebratio­n aims to promote Science, Technology, Engineerin­g and Mathematic­s (STEM) among students through competitiv­e and collaborat­ive activities, reinforce content and skills they have learned inside the classroom, and foster camaraderi­e among fellow students inside and outside the school.

This year’s Science Olympics is composed of 12 major competitio­ns, namely: Paper Tower, Straw Bridge, Sound Machine, Large Barge, Keep it Hot & Cold, Catapult, Clean, Clear Water, Powered Racers, Stop, Thief, Crime Scene Investigat­ion, Tropical Island Water Challenge, Balloon Powered Racers, Science Chef, Naked Egg Drop, Stranded, Space Lander Mission and Up, Up & Away!

The student’s knowledge on different scientific concepts will be put to the test during the Science Quiz Challenge. Participan­ts of the Science Quiz Challenge will undergo a series of written tests in biology, chemistry and earth and space science.

Math wizards will test their computatio­nal skills as they solve math problems in the Quiz Bee.

Students from other private schools in Las Piñas City are also invited to witness and engage in science-heavy but fun-filled activities that are not usually part of but complement formal classroom instructio­n.
